The advancement of organizations is in the advancement of their members’ abilities

The Swedish organization of ABF, in cooperation with Tammuz Organization for Social Development and with the Iraqi Cultural House in Gothenburg, held a training workshop for ten activists of both sexes of civil society organizations. The workshop aimed at the advancement of the organizations’ work and developing of strategic plans that enhance the staff’s abilities on one hand and achieve the organizations’ goals on the other hand. The workshop was held in Istanbul-Turkey during 19-22 October, 2017.

The workshop was opened with welcoming and introductory words by our colleagues Riza Talebi of ABF CENTER, Hamza Abed of The Iraqi cultural House and Vian Alsheikh Ali of Tammuz Organization for Social Development, she welcomed the attendants and the participants, she also acquainted the participants with the training workshop and its goals. Afterwards, she gave an overview on the organization of Tammuz and its relation with the Swedish organization of ABF and its role in improving and enhancing the civil society organizations’ staffs working in Iraq since 2004 till now,

And how this cooperation was evolved to become a strong partnership which the Iraqi Cultural House in Gothenburg contributed in its strength and sustainability who took it upon itself the coordination between the two organizations, Afterwards, MR. Riza Talebi welcomed the attendants and gave an overview on the establishment of the organization of ABF in 1912 in Sweden, its goals, the stages and the difficulties they had experienced as well as the organizational strategies they had adopted to preserve their activities and events within society and the power of its impact in the socio-political environment and its current role as an organization who trained hundreds of Swedish parliamentary members and  political leaders.

Our colleague Hamza Abed made a welcoming and introductory statement on The Iraqi Cultural House in Gothenburg, and its perennial quest for implementing activities in Iraq through the organization of Tammuz, reviewing the challenges that had faced the implementation of those activities and the credibility that was achieved through this partnership.

Among the work of the workshop and its programme, Mr. Riza Talebi gave a summary on the organizations’ work mechanisms, their role in society and political life, and on the activities that should be followed, as well as the governmental policies, administrative procedures, and legal legislations that might differ from one state to another.

And through working groups and their proposals, in addition to many discussions on work mechanisms and achieving the required improvement in society, it was emphasized on the necessity of solidarity, exchanging expertise, developing common action plans with clear objectives and creating a public opinion that supports these objectives in order to make the change required to build an aware society and a state of institutions that respects human rights and the life of dignity.

He also reviewed the required skills to lead sessions and dialogues by the activists.

The second day of the workshop covered many topics the most important of which were Vision, concentrate and planning for any organization wants to continue its work and performance and makes a progress on implementing its projects and achieving their goals. A detailed explanation on organizations’ work mechanisms was provided out of motivation and inspiration as well as the vision and stages needed  to start an organization, the necessity to make a review and an evaluation for each implemented  activity, also evaluating the organization’s performance as well as the participants’ in each activity.

And the adoption of the principle of Social justice and democracy as a basis and a goal at the same time which worked according to until it is achieved.

Through this review and evaluation we can improve the work and adopt new work mechanisms and the introduction of new elements, focus on achievements and disposing of negative performance and work routine.

Also, it is necessary to improve the organizations’ staffs’ abilities through holding a regular training and organizational workshops.

The focus was on communicating with local and international organizations to exchange experiences and benefit from the experiences of various organizations through conferences and participation in regional and global activities with common objectives.

It is worth mentioning that Tammuz has organized many activities and courses in Iraq in cooperation with ABF in the field of awareness raising, education and development of youth capacities, civil society organizations, women's support programs, democracy promotion programs and the establishment of human rights values in the new Iraq.
