Represented by our colleague Lamees Kahtan Ahmed, Tammuz Organization for Social Development participated in the training workshop held by Al-amal society in cooperation with Oxfam. The workshop was held at the society's headquarters on Thursday 7/12/2017, Mr. Hassan Wahab welcomed the attendants and reviewed the workshop's objectives as well as providing the final version of the political paper agreed upon in Beirut. The training workshop which was run by

Mr. Hassan Wahab on strengthening protection and services for women and girls who survived the sexual violence due to the armed conflict in Iraq, he emphasized on planning for advocacy campaigns includes:

-What are the main demands of the campaign? What is the target of the campaign and what they can do.

-  What are the expected objectives before the end of the project on 28 February 2018?

- What are the specific advocacy campaign activities to be undertaken by the partners, and how will the partners spend the grants?

How can Al-amal Society and Oxfam help?-

-There are recommendations that we can follow to unify the campaign and the campaign of the defender.

Legislative power First:

1. Adoption of the draft law against domestic violence, in a way that preserves the dignity of the victims, the majority of them women and children, and ensures their protection and safeguarding their rights.

2. Excluding crimes committed against women of government amnesties issued on the basis of political consensus within the national reconciliation program, punishing the perpetrators and work to redress and rehabilitate women victims.

3.  Amendment of the Penal Code No. 111 of 1969. In order to ensure that the discriminatory provisions contained in concluding remark 18 of the CEDAW Committee are canceled or amended to the Iraqi government in 2014.

Second- Government

1. Accession to the Rome Statute to ensure the international and national prosecution of perpetrators.

2.Formation of the National Body for the Empowerment of Women in accordance with Article 19 of the CEDAW Committee to the Government of Iraq.

3. Allocate the necessary financial resources to implement the national plan of Security Council resolution 1325.

4. Develop an action plan and allocate the necessary resources to implement the provisions of the joint statement on crimes of sexual violence committed in conflicts.

5. Support reconciliation efforts among local communities, and involve civil society organizations and women in the development of national policies and strategies to achieve social cohesion and civil peace, combating terrorism and extremism.

6. Simplify procedures for registration of marriages, divorces and births in all regions, and facilitate institutional transactions in this regard, especially for those who have been subjected to sexual violence by members of gangs of ISIS.

7.And then asked the professor a question to the audience what are the most important demands that need to unite the plan of a campaign and you have to choose 2 or 3 recommendations to work on the expense of the short period of time specified for the project?

8.  After the agreement among the groups, they decided to choose the optimal selection of recommendations that can be converted to the objectives of

1. Adoption of the draft law against domestic violence.

2. Supporting reconciliation efforts among local communities, involving civil society organizations and women.

Mr.Hassan Wahab asked what activities each group does,

It was answered by the groups after the agreement between them and confirmed on:

·        Meetings with members of parliament in the province.

·        Collecting signatures campaign.

At the end of the workshop, Mr. Hassan Wahab asked the attendees what demands could be made by Al-Amal and Oxfam other than financial support? It was agreed among the attendees to identify the demands.

*We need a dedicated hall to hold workshops.
