Under the theme “In order to create an electoral societal culture”

 On Thursday, 22 February, 2018, Tammuz Organization for Social Development in Dhi- Qar held an educational dialogue seminar on the electoral cycle and the stages of the elections in accordance with international standards and education to participate in the Dawaia district north of the city of Nasiriyah and in the presence of Mr. Fleih Hassan  the deputy governor of the district and staff working in the administrative district and with the participation of a number of women in the district of Dawaia.

 The seminar was opened by the deputy governor; he welcomed the members of the Tammuz Social Development Organization in Dhi Qar province and thanked them for coming all that way in order to hold this seminar on the elections. Then Mr. Razak Obeid presented the legal background of the elections and the electoral cycle and its stages. Where he explained in detail the stages of the elections began from the first one which is the adoption of the electoral law and update the electoral register and the registration of alliances and parties and submitting the lists of candidates and approval and the adoption of entities observers international and local observers, as well as the stage of electoral propaganda for the candidates. The second stage of voting, including the voting day, to the electoral silence and the day of the general elections, which includes a number of stages, namely opening, polling, counting, and sorting, explaining in detail this stage and its importance as well as the new procedures adopted by the Electoral Commission on the day of the ballot after that he moved the lecture to the third stage, the stage of the results and the submission of appeals.

 He then opened the floor for dialogue and discussion. The lecturer answered all the questions that were raised by the participants, while our colleague Nawal Salem explained the role of women in the electoral process and the importance of participation of women as candidates and voters also based on the rights of women in the Constitution and international conventions in this regard.

 At the end of the seminar, a number of recommendations were made to the concerned bodies and the Commission including:

1.To hold more such awareness-raising seminars.

2-The necessity of holding these seminars in districts, townships and villages, and not being limited to centers of provinces, the participants have commended on Tammuz organization in this aspect.

3 - Urging people to participate broadly in the elections and not to abstain or boycott them.

4 - Urge women especially to participate because they represent and play a major role in change and have a key role because they represent more than half of the voting power.

5- Giving a role to the media and opinion leaders and influence in the community to urge people to participate in the elections.

6 - Allocate television and radio programs to the rural areas and encourage people and awareness of the importance of participation in elections and change and not limited to large cities and community elites.
