Under the theme of (Elections, reluctance to participate and their effects)

On Monday 19/3/2018, Tammuz Organization for Social Development held an educational seminar on the elections and its stages reluctance to participate in and the mechanism of counting votes. It was held for the students of the Faculty of Physical Education - University of Dhi Qar, and at the hall of the college and in the presence of the Dean of the College and its professors and a large number of students.

The Dean of the College, Dr. Adel Odeh Al-Ghazzi, opened the seminar and thanked the Tammuz Organization for Social Development on behalf of the College, its professors and students, and then the administrative assistant, Dr. Saleh Jawid, introduced our colleague Razak Obaid Zaher to give the lecture.

At the beginning of the lecture, colleague Razak gave a presentation on the emergence of democracies and their relation to the elections and then reviewed the legal frameworks for the elections in Iraq and then touched on a brief summary about the last electoral cycles and the development of electoral systems from the closed list to the current system of distribution of seats, including the system of St. Lego, as amended and its most important defects then he addressed the problem of abstaining from participating in the elections and its impact on the reality and what the results are likely to be in the short term as well as the long one. And the need to participate for the purpose of making a leap towards change, although the process is slow because of the electoral system, then the floor to discussions opened for participants and there was a substantive discussion by Mr. Dean and professors, in addition to the participation of the student college in a broad way.

The most important ideas discussed and debated in the seminar can be summarized as follows:

1 - The need to participate actively in the elections through the ballot box, which is the ruling regime in the democratic system.

2 - The need to change the electoral system in the coming cycles in line with the aspirations of people to change.

3 - The need to put programs of the candidates in order to be in the interest and vision of people and not narrow partisan vision.

4 - Adherence to the electoral rules of conduct for candidates in a precise manner in accordance with the laws and electoral regulations.

5 - Giving a clear role for young people in the electoral process as they are the future of the country.

6 - Give the role of elites in ministerial and administrative joints to advance the country.

7. Conducting a precise population census for future cycles for the purpose of establishing a solid updating record, determining population ratios and allocating seats accurately.

At the end of the seminar, Mr. Razak Obaid presented on behalf of the Tammuz Organization for Social Development the great thanks to the dean of the Faculty of Physical Education, his assistants and the students who participated in the success of the symposium and their support for the activities of civil society organizations as well as participation in the upcoming elections on 12 May 2018 in order to promote democracy and Expression of opinion and the peaceful transfer of power through holding the elections on time.
