Kahramana Group Workshop with Council of Amarah for Social Cohesion

On Saturday, 20 April 2019, supervised by Tammuz Organization for Social Development, Kahramana Group for the Promotion of Women's Participation in Political and Civil Decision-Making Centers, held a  Workshop with the Council of Amarah for Social Cohesion to discuss a working paper on the situation of women in the governorate of Amarah with the aim of enhancing the participation of women in decision-making centers and in the presence of the members of the Council for Social Cohesion and a number of activists in the city including representatives , a number of activists in the city, including representatives of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Electoral Commission, journalists, representatives of minorities, clerics and teachers. The workshop was opened by our colleague Asaad Kanani, coordinator of the Amarah Governorate Council for the cohesion, who welcomed the attendees and activists of the Kahramana group, explaining the objective of the session. After a round of introductions by participants, our colleague Vian Al-Sheikh Ali, coordinator of the Kahramana group, made an intervention that reviewed the group's objectives, which emerged from the topics that were chosen as problems of the Council of Amarah for social cohesion.  Our colleague Dhay Mudar also presented a brief overview of Kahramana Group and its activities. Three topics identified by the Kahramana Group as issues related to the advancement of women were presented in terms of progress and development for them and for the city of Amarah and the country.  The paper dealt with issues (political participation, child marriage and women's participation in peacebuilding). Each issue was presented in terms of diagnosing the problem, reasons, results, solutions and how to contribute to achieving the solution.  The workshop was enriched by an extensive discussion on the status, challenges, and influences of the members of the council and the Kahramana group. The topic was then chosen and a round table was held to discuss it with the participation of decision makers and influential people in the city of Amarah. The workshop lasted more than three hours and was rich in interaction and discussion. Our colleagues from the Kahramana group expressed their happiness to establish this activity in the city of Amarah and to get acquainted with this active group, which is becoming increasingly admired for the number of active young women who will have A role in promoting the status of women in the city of Amarah with the participation of activists in the Council. In addition to the coordinator of the group, the Kahramana Group was represented by each of our colleagues Dhay Mudar, Enas Jabbar and Saba Odeh. The Kahramana Group is a member of the Iraqi Social Forum, and it is supervised and coordinated by the Tammuz Organization for Social Development. The group works to promote women's participation in decision-making centers through empowering, supporting participation in decision-making, highlighting women's role and emphasizing their successes.
