First workshop on Security Council Resolution 2250

 The first workshop of “Young Leaders Program”  for its first and second classes was launched on 25/4/2019, as the organization of “Freedom and Peace” in collaboration with Tammuz Organization for Social Development & Fredrich Ebert German Foundation held an opening workshop to the program of “Paving the way to strength the agenda of peace, youth and security in Iraq” for the security council resolution 2250, which was adopted by the united nations in 2015 by the vote and approval of all the 15 members, the resolution is unprecedented in Iraq and it grants young people the opportunity to achieve peace and security  worldwide.

25  participants attended the workshop (25 young men & women) of all Iraqi governorates . During the workshop, some focal topics were addressed:

1-    Participation :


·        Increase young people’s engagement in all decision-making levels.

·        Young people’s opinions and participation in social peacebuilding negotiations and agreements should be taken into consideration. 

·        Supporting and empowering young people in social peacebuilding initiatives.


2- Protection:

·        Strengthening civilians’ lives protection and human rights in armed conflicts cases and insecurity.

·        Strengthening protection against sexual and gender-based violence.

·        The necessity to investigate and prosecution in crimes committed against civilians.



·        Develop appropriate policies for young people within a supportive environment.

·        Supporting the participation of young people in social peacebuilding.

·        Building capacities concerning social peacebuilding and conflicts settlements.

·        Promotion of the culture of peace, tolerance, multi-backgrounds and interreligious dialogue.


4- Partnerships:


-increase political, technical, financial & logistic support of the young people’s participation in achieving social peacebuilding. 


5- Disconnection and reintegration:


·        Provide job opportunities for young people so they can face marginalization and activating their roles.  

·        Investing in building young people’s skills and capacities.

·        Support young people’s pioneering initiatives.


   It’s worth mentioning that within the program schedule is to hold an additive workshop regarding practical application of Security Council Resolution 2250 and activating young leaders in order to embark exercising their roles in social and political lives, and that is compatible with the organization’s goals and strategies in development.
