Strengthening women’s Participation in Leadership & Decision making Centers

 

Tammuz Organization Participated in the meeting held by Ms. Alla Talibani, a member of foreign relations committee and the president of Iraqi Female MPs Assembly. It was held at the invitation   Baghdad Women Society with the campaign of (# our family we protect) supported by the organization of Norwegian People’s Aid, within the project of (Strengthening Women’s participation in leadership and decision making process on 19 Sep2019)

During the meeting a brief explanation was given on the campaign of Advocative Campaign “Our Family We Protect” and under the slogan of “make your combatting to Domestic Violence a law”. The campaign was launched in 2015 aiming to conduct a revolution for policies and women’s rights related organizations in Iraq in line with international covenants and to achieve a gender balance that contributes to eliminate violence and discrimination against women and girls and national legislations, at its beginning, the campaign was launched with legislative review.

The mechanisms to access the most focal issues and women’s demands in the current stage as follows:

-         To hold meeting followed by the launch of the Electronic Form.

-         To hold communication groups and female MPs.

-         To hold two joint workshops among Female MPs and Female civil activists.

-         To hold expanded dialogue meetings targeting men.

- To transmit 5 radio episodes/ an advertisement for a year/ to establish a channel with the name of the campaign.

- To establish a short film and an interactive theatre.

Of the most prominent recommendations made by Ms. Alaa Talibani to the campaign of (Our –Family-we-Protect) 

-Intensive visits to decision makers because Parliament needs civil society organizations.

-Supporting men participate in seminars and workshops held by the campaign.

-Create a group to communicate with the campaign.

- Meeting with the legal committee.

It is worth noting that Tammuz organization is one of the organizations that has accompanied the advocacy campaigns to pass the Domestic Violence Law since 2014 in addition to the organization's activities to empower women at the economic and political level through workshops and seminars held by the organization's staff.
