Kahramana’s Periodic Meeting

Kahramana’s periodic meeting to strengthen women’s participation in Political and civil decision making centers was held on Wednesday 25 September 2019, at the headquarters of Tammuz Organization for Social Development  ( Kahramana is one of the Iraqi National Forum’s group)

In the presence of Vian Al-Sheikh Ali, the group’s coordinator, and our colleagues the group’s members. The point of holding such meeting was to develop a plan on the group’s activities within the sixth season of the forum, which will be 3 day long 8-10/11/2019, the first day will witness the launch of Baghdad Marathon “Baghdad Dar Al-Salam” and the festival of “Another Iraq is Possible” As for the rest two days, they will witness dialogue seminars and conferences that will be held at the halls of Baghdad Academy for Humanities. 

Our Colleague Vian, welcomed our other colleagues and thanked them for their presence and gave an introduction on the nature of the Sixth Season’s activities, and the role of Kahramana in those activities, and how will our participation be?

Our colleagues kindly reviewed a group of cases that they considered necessary to focus on and feed on the benefit of achieving the group’s objectives.

Subsequently, there was a suggestion to participate in the festival of “ Another Iraq is Possible” with one camp or more in which some folkloric arts by distinguished girls as a recognition for their efforts in challenging the difficulties of unemployment and the lack of job opportunities as they created their own alternative plans to support themselves . Moreover, there was a suggestion to hold a visual studio that embodies the size of women’s suffering in terms of violence they face, and there was another suggestion to decorate the camp with orange balloons a symbol to renounce violence against women, others suggested to have a female violinist or a lute player to perform in the camp, in addition to other awareness activities.

As for the last two days of the season, it will be a group of dialogue seminars and conferences, and the group would participate with two seminars, three topics were suggested and most important two and the closest to the group’s goal will be chosen.

The suggested topics and according to priority were as follows:

-         Violence and effect of Social Costumes.

-         Political participation.

-         CEDAW Covenant

At the end of the meeting, our colleague Vian extended her thanks to rest of our colleagues for their presence and interaction with their opinions and active discussions that enriched the meeting, hoping that the groups would have a distinctive role as usual during the previous years.
