A workshop on the basics of digital security in Basra
Tammuz Organization for Social Development and Adam Volunteer Team was conducted A workshop on the basics of digital security with the participation of 16 individuals on Friday, March 8, 2024, in Basra Governorate.
The training was led by trainer Hussein Mahmood, who began by explaining the reasons why individuals invade our digital lives. Then a group activity was conducted, asking participants to identify potential adversaries and their capabilities. After that, the trainer explained how to activate two-factor authentication and its importance in protecting our accounts from intrusion.
The trainer also explained the differences between HTTP and HTTPS, the advantages of connecting via VPN, and using the TOR browser. Then, he discussed how to check links for their safety, as well as creating strong, difficult-to-crack passwords and securely storing them. The difference between open-source and closed-source software was also clarified, along with a discussion on social engineering and its methods, accompanied by a video demonstrating the use and dangers of social engineering.
Finally, the trainer addressed the topic of extortion and the optimal ways to avoid becoming a victim of electronic extortion, as well as the means victims may resort to when extortion occurs.
