“Civil Society as a Vital Partner in Building Integrity and Promoting Transparency”
Tamuz Organization for Social Development, in collaboration with the Department of Relations with Non-Governmental Organizations in the Federal Integrity Commission, organized an educational seminar titled “Civil Society as a Vital Partner in Building Integrity and Promoting Transparency” on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in Baghdad.
The seminar was attended by 22 members and heads of civil society organizations. seminar was opened by Mr. Safaa Hussein from the Integrity Commission, who spoke about the importance of the role of civil society organizations in promoting transparency and integrity, and the effective mechanisms for enhancing cooperation between the organizations and the Integrity Commission. Mr. Safaa also discussed the work of the Integrity Commission and its procedures for combating corruption.
Following that, colleague Ivan Karim gave a lecture covering several key topics, including mechanisms for communication with oversight institutions, opportunities for the success of civil society organizations in performing their role in promoting integrity and combating corruption, the challenges faced by civil society organizations in enhancing integrity and combating corruption, and more.
In conclusion, a set of recommendations was made, the most notable of which are:
– The necessity for organizations, networks, and alliances to specialize in the field of combating corruption.
– Using scientific methods to address corruption and its risks, such as surveys, studies, and research.
– Focusing on presenting draft laws to Parliament.
– Providing support and coverage for organizations to enter governmental institutions for the purpose of monitoring and oversight.
– Encouraging organizations to include activities related to good governance, accountability, and justice within their annual activities.
