Democracy and Peacebuilding

Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, implemented the fourth training workshop entitled “Democracy and Peacebuilding” within the Young Leaders Program – Fifth Generation during the period from July 4 to 6, 2024, in Erbil Governorate.

The training, led by coach Khudr Domli, was attended by 20 participants from various Iraqi governorates and lasted for three days. During the first day, the coach addressed the general concept of democracy, social and democratic environment, steps for societies to transition to democracy, tools for promoting democracy, and more.

On the second day, the coach explained the concepts of peacebuilding, steps to building peace, the challenges in the way of peacebuilding, and the opportunities for achieving peacebuilding. The first two days also included a series of practical exercises, group work, and brainstorming sessions.

On the third day, the young leaders met with the team of Erbil Reading Festival at the headquarters of the Iraqi Al-Amal Association. The meeting aimed to introduce the program participants to the work plans of Erbil Reading Festival initiative, which is considered one of the successful initiatives, and how it is managed, as well as the obstacles and challenges faced during the implementation of the initiative. After that, they visited Erbil Citadel and its historical landmarks to discover the city’s history and learn about its community and history.
