Dialogue session on violence against women in Najaf

On Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the hall of Al-Ghadeer Women’s Forum, our Female Revolution Team – Najaf Governorate implemented a dialogue session on gender-based violence to revive the 16-day campaign to oppose violence against women

20 women attended the session, and they discussed the high incidence of violence against women in Iraq and the reasons behind that, the most salient of which were customs and traditions that give the right to men, whether husbands, fathers, or brothers, to discipline women and control their behaviors and their lives as well, which has become a pretext for practicing violence against women, besides the absence of strict laws and failing to activate the role of family courts.

After that, activist Manal Hameed from the Female Revolution team presented some legal information to the attendees, in addition to discussing the weakness of deterrent laws and the lack of important laws such as the Domestic Violence Law and other laws that guarantee and protect women’s rights.
