Tammuz Conducts the Second Workshop of the Seventh Generation of the Youth Leaders Program
Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), conducted the second training workshop of the seventh generation of the Youth Leaders Program under the title “Social Democracy and Economic Reform.” The workshop brought together 27 young men and women from different Iraqi governorates and was held in Erbil from 16–18 July 2026.
The three-day training was led by trainer Thaar Ali Al-Mansouri and focused on the concepts of the social state, social democracy, and economic reform. The first day introduced the concept of the social state, its origins, and its role in social protection and resource redistribution. Participants also explored the current state of the social state within the local context, the principles of social justice, equal opportunities, and social solidarity, in addition to discussing the relationship between economic reform and social stability and identifying youth perspectives on economic reform priorities.
On the second day, participants examined the relationship between social democracy and the economy, the role of the state in regulating the market, social protection policies, support for small enterprises and employment, and the impact of globalization on the local economy and social inequality. The day concluded with participants developing a set of youth recommendations for more equitable economic reform policies through group work and practical exercises.
The third day focused on community initiatives and economic advocacy. Participants learned about the concept of advocacy, the steps involved in developing community initiatives, problem analysis, identifying target groups, planning advocacy campaigns, building alliances, engaging with decision-makers, assessing risks and challenges, and preparing short-term action plans for implementing their initiatives.
Throughout the workshop, participants took part in intensive practical exercises and group activities covering the various training topics. The “Wshyarbah” Anti-Drugs Team was also invited to present its community initiatives and share its experience in voluntary work, providing participants with practical insights and inspiring them to develop their own initiatives. Participants demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm and active engagement throughout the workshop.
