Tammuz Organization for Social Development continues with Iraqi Universities Students

Tammuz Organization for Social Development has implemented in cooperation with UNDP and UNIFEM a project to reduce the violence against women in the Iraqi Community through holding eight cultural workshops in University of Muthana and Dhi Qar in October and November of this year. The workshop included lectures on human rights and international conventions on violence against women such as CEDAW Convention and was attended by professors of two universities as well as participate more than 200 students (both gender) and the proportion of women were 70%, the workshop characterized with active participation and the participants affirmed on the duties of legislative, executive and judicial authority and civil society organizations as following:
1.Duties of Legislative Authority: legislate a laws to resist violence & provide an appropriate representation of women in parliament on the basis of merit.
2.Duties of Executive Authority: Full application of laws passed by parliament regarding violence against women, work of media to educate of violence against women, police departments will be oblige to send the complaints to the competent court, arrest accused with violence against women and bring them to justice, hear complaints of the women subjected to violence.
3.Duties of Judicial Authority: Prosecution of Persons of violence against women, issuing immediate sanctions against violators of violence against women and zero tolerance, financial fines for each person directed obscene words to women, not to delay the lawsuit by the personal status of women.
4.Duties of Civil Society Organizations: workshops and conferences  on violence against women, visit and meet sheikhs and clerks to forbid violence against women, visit members of civil society organizations of women to reduce violence against women.
