The importance of women’s political participation

On March 6, 2023, The Revolution is Female Team – Dhi Qar Governorate, held a dialogue session on the importance of women’s political participation, in cooperation with the Office of the Independent High Electoral Commission in Dhi Qar, for a group of female employees of the Commission’s departments.

At the beginning of the session, our colleague Esraa Abd Alkareem, the Project Coordinator, spoke about The Revolution is Female project and the work of the team in the governorate. Then, the Woman Empowerment Official in the Commission, Mrs. Alia Farid Kadhem, discussed political empowerment, its importance, and the levels of political participation. She also dealt with the most important obstacles that women face in participation, including political, social and cultural ones, in addition to legal and economic obstacles.

During her speech, she also touched on the articles that contain discrimination on the basis of sex in the Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 of 1969, including Articles No. 41, 409, 377 and 398, and the percentages of women’s participation in the executive and legislative fields after 2003 were reviewed.
