Tammuz Implements the First Workshop of the Sixth Generation Youth Leaders Program
Workshop on “Leadership Skills, Dialogue, and Peacebuilding”

Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in partnership with the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation, held the first workshop of the Youth Leaders Program – Sixth Generation, entitled “Leadership Skills, Dialogue, and Peacebuilding,” from 8 to 10 May 2025 in Basra Governorate.
Twenty‑five young women and men from all Iraqi governorates participated in the workshop, which was delivered by trainer Thaer Al‑Mansouri. On the first day, he covered the concept and phenomenon of leadership, major leadership theories, key leadership traits, and the principal roles of a leader. He also explained the strategy for making leadership decisions and methods for measuring leadership effectiveness.
On the second day, the trainer provided an overview of dialogue—its etiquette, rules, and frameworks—outlined the characteristics of an effective interlocutor, and introduced dialogue and negotiation tools. Participants were then divided into working groups to practice negotiating a specific issue among themselves.
During the third day, the focus shifted to peacebuilding: defining the difference between positive and negative peace, examining factors that influence peacebuilding, and exploring economic, social, and political dimensions. Thaer Al‑Mansouri also demonstrated how to conduct conflict analysis and apply various resolution techniques. Each group chose a particular dispute to analyze and worked on proposing solutions.
In closing, program coordinator Hussein Mahmoud thanked the trainer and all participants for their dedication and active involvement throughout the workshop.
It is worth noting that the Youth Leaders Program is held annually by the Tamuz Organization in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. To date, five generations have graduated, totaling over 150 young leaders from every Iraqi governorate.
