Meeting of the Subcommittee for the Electoral Awareness Forum in Wasit Governorate
As part of the project “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Freedom of the Media”, funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), the Tamuz Organization for Social Development, in collaboration with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) and its project partners—the Shams and Eye Networks for Election Monitoring—held a meeting of the Subcommittee for the Electoral Awareness Forum in Wasit Governorate on Wednesday, 21 May 2025.
The meeting was attended by representatives from IHEC, civil society organizations, and professional unions. The primary objectives were to establish the subcommittee for the Electoral Awareness Forum in Wasit, introduce the “Democracy and Transparency” project, and develop a tailored action plan for upcoming electoral awareness forums in the governorate.
Discussions also addressed key aspects of the electoral process, including the Iraqi electoral law, biometric voter registration updates, and strategies to enhance public engagement and transparency in future elections.
