Awareness Seminar on Extremism and Violence in Dhi Qar

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote community awareness, Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in cooperation with the Subcommittee for Combating Violent Extremism in Dhi Qar Governorate, held an educational awareness seminar entitled “Extremism and Violence and Their Impact on Society” on Saturday, 29 June 2025, at Suq Al-Shuyoukh General Hospital in Dhi Qar Governorate. The seminar was attended by a number of medical, administrative, and technical staff from the hospital.
Mr. Razzaq Obeid Dhahir, representative of the organization’s office and member of the subcommittee in the governorate, addressed several key topics during the seminar. He provided a definition of extremism along with a historical overview of its roots, and outlined the forms and manifestations of violence as well as its psychological effects.
The seminar also highlighted methods for preventing and reducing violence, with a focus on the early detection of indicators of extremist behavior and how to identify potentially radicalized individuals through certain signs and behaviors. The speaker emphasized the critical role that professionals in the medical and educational sectors can play in addressing such cases, in accordance with established professional standards.
The session concluded with thanks to the hospital administration and its medical, administrative, and technical staff for their cooperation and active participation, as well as their commitment to strengthening partnerships with civil society organizations to confront violence and extremism.
