Training Workshop for Sub-Committee Members of Women Empowerment Departments in Wasit Governorate

As part of the project “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Freedom of the Media”, funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in cooperation with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the Department of Women Empowerment, and Wasit University, conducted a training workshop for sub-committee members of women empowerment departments on the topic of electoral violence against women. The training took place on September 21–22, 2025.
The training aimed to strengthen participants’ capacities to address electoral violence and to promote the safe and effective participation of women in the electoral process. The sessions included an introduction to the legal framework and the Iraqi electoral system, discussions on challenges faced by female candidates, hate speech on social media, mechanisms for legal and digital protection, and practical exercises on designing electoral messaging and fostering community support for female candidates.
The workshop witnessed active participation from representatives of governmental and academic institutions and contributed to enhancing coordination among partner entities in support of women’s political empowerment and the creation of a safe and inclusive electoral environment.
