Training Workshop for Sub-Committee Members of Women Empowerment Departments in Karbala Governorate

As part of the project “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Freedom of the Media”, funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in cooperation with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and the Department of Women Empowerment, conducted a training workshop for sub-committee members of women empowerment departments on the topic of electoral violence against women. The training was held on September 21–22, 2025.

The training aimed to enhance the participants’ capacities in addressing electoral violence and promoting the safe and active participation of women in the electoral process. The program included sessions on the legal framework and the Iraqi electoral system, along with discussions on challenges facing female candidates, hate speech on social media, legal and digital protection mechanisms, and practical exercises on developing electoral messages and community support for women candidates.

The workshop witnessed active engagement from representatives of governmental and academic institutions and contributed to strengthening coordination among partner entities in support of women’s political empowerment and the establishment of a safe and inclusive electoral environment.
