“Mothers’ Rights in Delivery Rooms”

As part of the Women for Democracy project implemented by Tammuz Organization for Social Development, Friends of Determined People team conducted two awareness workshops titled “Mothers’ Rights in Delivery Rooms” between October 23 and November 5, 2024, in Najaf Governorate.

The workshops targeted female health and nursing staff working in maternity and postpartum care units at the main and subsidiary health centers in the Abbasia and Al-Mishkhab sectors, as well as the delivery room staff at Al-Sajjad Hospital and Al-Hurriya Hospital.

The workshops covered several key topics, including:

  • The importance of necessary medical interventions at every stage to ensure a safe delivery for both mother and child.
  • Legal rights of mothers and their specific rights within delivery rooms.
  • Procedures that medical staff should follow to ensure a safe and healthy environment for mothers.

The workshops concluded with a set of important recommendations:

  • Continuous training for medical and nursing staff on mothers’ rights and safe care practices.
  • Raising legal awareness to protect mothers’ rights and establishing channels for reporting any violations.
  • Ensuring adherence to medical standards for safe deliveries and activating health oversight within delivery rooms.
  • Developing clear protocols for delivery room care that prioritize mothers’ rights and their health safety.
