Tammuz Organizes the Second Workshop on Combating Electoral Violence in Dhi Qar

As part of the “Community-Led Solutions to Counter Violent Extremism” project, and with support from Al-Masalla Organization and funding from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Tammuz Organization for Social Development held the second workshop dedicated to the Electoral Violence Project on Sunday, November 23, 2025, in Dhi Qar Governorate.
The workshop brought together several candidates for the Sixth Cycle of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Elections (2025), in addition to representatives of electoral campaign teams from various coalitions and political entities, political entity observers, and media monitors responsible for tracking electoral discourse before, during, and after the campaign silence period.

The facilitator delivered a comprehensive presentation on the workshop’s main themes, focusing on the methods adopted by candidates during electoral campaigns, emphasizing the importance of adhering to electoral codes of conduct, and avoiding defamation, exclusion, hate speech, and sectarian rhetoric, along with other violations that negatively impact the electoral environment.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of steering away from inflammatory rhetoric that threatens social peace, and encouraged candidates and political actors to adopt balanced, non-extremist discourse grounded in respect for the will of both voters and candidates. Participants were urged to reject any practices aimed at intimidating or pressuring voters, while upholding respect for differing opinions and refraining from attempts to marginalize others.
