“The Voice of Najafi Women – Challenges and Solutions”
As part of “Women for Democracy” project implemented by Tammuz Social Development Organization in Najaf Governorate, a second dialogue session was held under the slogan “The Voice of Najafi Women – Challenges and Solutions” in collaboration with the Al-Amal Iraqi Association. The session took place on Monday, December 9, 2024.
The session was attended by female employees from the Women’s Empowerment Department of the Najaf Health Directorate.
Its goal was to discuss the challenges facing women. The discussion revolved around several key topics, including child marriage and its health and legal consequences on girls, Iraqi legislation concerning women, women’s opportunities in political representation and decision-making in Najaf, as well as the deprivation of girls from education due to customs and traditions, among others.
Following the discussion, attendees formulated a set of recommendations, including:
- Increasing the representation of women in decision-making positions.
- Ensuring equality and fairness in employment opportunities between women and men.
- Organizing awareness campaigns to educate women about their legal rights.
- Advocating for the enactment of strict laws to reduce violence against women.
