Tammuz Holds a Training Workshop for Union and Syndicate Members in Erbil

As part of the project “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Freedom of Media,” funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), Tammuz Organization for Social Development conducted a training workshop targeting members of unions and syndicates in Erbil Governorate, held from August 22 to 23, 2025.

The workshop was attended by 17 participants and focused on raising electoral awareness and enhancing the role of unions in election monitoring. The sessions covered the legal framework of the Iraqi Parliamentary Elections Law, international standards for electoral integrity, the procedures for updating the voter registry, the functions of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), and methods for voter outreach and mobilization. The workshop also addressed the issues of hate speech and electoral violence, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and mitigating their impact on the electoral process.

The training witnessed active engagement and in-depth discussions between participants and trainers, as they exchanged experiences and explored strategies to strengthen the role of unions and syndicates in the electoral process, particularly in the fields of civic awareness and election performance monitoring within their respective sectors.
