Training on Raising Awareness and Facilitating Access to Voluntary Social Security for Workers in the Informal Sector

Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in partnership with the Iraqi Al-Amal Association, implemented a specialized training on raising awareness about voluntary social security and facilitating the access of workers in the informal sector to social security services during the period 4–5 December 2025 in Dhi Qar Governorate. The training focused on a set of key themes aimed at enabling participants to understand the law, inclusion mechanisms, and registration requirements.

The first day of the training included an extensive explanation of the importance of voluntary social security and its role in protecting workers outside the formal sector, in addition to an analytical presentation of the reality of workers in this sector, the challenges they face, and their rights and obligations under the Iraqi Labor Law.

A detailed explanation of the Social Security Law was also provided, including the benefits it offers, conditions for inclusion, and subscription mechanisms. This was followed by a practical training session on registration procedures and the basic requirements needed to complete the subscription process. Participants also discussed the outcomes of group work related to the needs of workers in this sector.

The second day focused on the role of unions and civil society organizations in supporting workers in the informal sector and facilitating their access to social security, in addition to group work sessions on understanding workers’ needs and the challenges related to access to inclusion.

The training also included a practical session on the digital social security system, with the aim of enhancing participants’ ability to navigate the electronic platform and successfully complete the registration process.
