Tammuz Conducts Training on Disseminating Knowledge about Irregular Migration in Al-Muthanna

Tammuz Organization for Social Development conducted a training session for a group of religious and educational leaders in Al-Muthanna Governorate on how to disseminate knowledge related to irregular migration and counter misinformation. The training was implemented in cooperation with Ministry of Migration and Displacement within the framework of the Raising Awareness of the Risks of Irregular Migration in Iraq (RADIM) project, funded by UK International Development and implemented in partnership with Seefar, on Monday, 16 February 2026.

The training aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the dimensions of irregular migration from Iraq to the United Kingdom, including the main risks, verified facts, and common misleading narratives associated with it. It also focused on equipping them with the skills to facilitate safe and respectful discussions on migration within religious and educational settings, and to effectively counter myths and narratives promoted by smugglers.

Furthermore, the training strengthened participants’ capacities to train others and disseminate accurate and reliable messages within their local communities, contributing to reducing the risks of irregular migration and unsafe journeys. This included developing adaptable and shareable content suitable for different community contexts.

The program also emphasized reinforcing their role as trusted community leaders by enhancing their ability to respond to difficult questions raised by youth and families, and by providing them with reliable information and clear support and referral mechanisms, including guidance toward helplines and relevant authorities.

The training concluded by underscoring the importance of sustained knowledge dissemination within local communities and promoting a balanced, fact-based awareness discourse that contributes to protecting those most vulnerable to the risks of irregular migration.
