Tammuz Conducts Training of Trainers on Promoting Migration Awareness and Combating Misinformation in Baghdad

Tammuz Organization for Social Development conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) on promoting migration awareness and combating misinformation in Baghdad Governorate, in cooperation with the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, as part of the Raising Awareness of the Risks of Irregular Migration in Iraq (Phase II) 2026–2027 (RADIM2) project, funded by UK International Development and implemented in partnership with Seefar. The training was held on Saturday, 17 October 2026.

The training covered the risks of irregular migration from Iraq to the United Kingdom, highlighting the physical, financial, and psychological risks that migrants may face during their journeys and after arrival. It also explored the motivations behind migration and the economic and social factors influencing young people’s decisions.

The training also addressed how to debunk myths and misinformation spread by smuggling networks and social media platforms, distinguish between circulating promises and the actual realities of irregular migration, and facilitate community discussions about migration. Participants also developed skills in responding to difficult questions in a respectful manner that encourages young people to think critically and make informed decisions.

Discussions also focused on how to share real-life stories safely and responsibly, strengthen the role of religious, educational, and community leaders in disseminating reliable information, and raise awareness of alternatives and opportunities available in Iraq, as well as pathways for education, employment, and regular migration. The training emphasized the importance of protecting participants and maintaining privacy and confidentiality when sharing personal experiences.
