A dialogue session to discuss the amendment of the Personal Status Law

“Women for Democracy” project team, implemented by Tammuz Organization for Social Development, organized a dialogue session to discuss the amendment of the Personal Status Law with the presence of Iraqi Parliament Member Mrs. Fatima Al-Eisawi on Monday, August 12, 2024, in Najaf Governorate. 

The session was attended by a group of activists, and a discussion took place between attendees and Parliament Member Mrs. Fatima Al-Eisawi about the amendments proposed by Iraqi Parliament to the Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959. She explained that this amendment is unfair to women and strips them of many rights. “My colleagues and I in Parliament will continue to oppose and work against these amendments.” 

The activists also presented a set of proposals and recommendations to the Parliament Member regarding several sections of the law amendment.
