Delegation of Monitoring Networks Visits the Independent High Electoral Commission

A delegation from the monitoring networks visited the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), where they were received by Judge Amer Al-Husseini, Head of the Electoral Administration, and Mr. Walid Khalid, Director of Operations and Information Technology. The visit took place on Monday, December 30, 2024.

During the meeting, discussions were held on mechanisms for positive collaboration between the IHEC and the monitoring networks for the elections of the sixth session of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament. A joint session was proposed to discuss key recommendations from the monitoring networks. Additionally, the meeting addressed the new program funded by the European Union Mission, in cooperation with the Norwegian People’s Aid Organization, titled “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Participation and Freedom of the Press.” The program spans two years, from 2024 to 2026.

Both parties agreed to work together to ensure the success of the project and to conduct various activities and events across 18 Iraqi provinces.

The delegation included representatives from the monitoring networks:

  1. Hawkar Jato Sheikh – General Coordinator of Shams Network for Election Monitoring.
  2. Afyan Rahim Ali – President of Tammuz Organization for Social Development.
  3. Zaher Rabie Hussein – Project Manager, Tammuz Organization.
  4. Ali Khudair Al-Anbari – Project Manager, Shams Network.
  5. Zainab Ali Mohammed Hussein Shabar – Representative of the Eye Network for Election and Democracy Monitoring.
