Educational Seminar on the Importance of Women’s Participation in Elections

The project team of “Women for Democracy,” implemented by Tammuz Organization, held an educational seminar on the importance of women’s participation in elections in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Department and the office of the Independent High Electoral Commission in Dhi Qar on Monday, April 14, 2025.

Eighteen women attended the seminar, representing the Women’s Affairs Departments across the various directorates of Dhi Qar Governorate. Mr. Raed Aziz, Head of the Media and Public Relations Division, delivered a lecture covering several topics, most notably: the procedures for updating the electoral register, the number of new registrants, and the importance of the roles played by civil society organizations and the media in election awareness. He also discussed the vital role of women in the electoral process, both as voters and as candidates.

The attendees then engaged in a discussion about the challenges faced by women voters and candidates, emphasizing through their interventions the need to support and empower women by organizing a series of awareness workshops on electoral systems and procedures.
