First Meeting of the Political Empowerment Committee in Dhi Qar

Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Department in Dhi Qar, held the first meeting of the Political Empowerment Committee for Women on Monday, 16 June 2025, at the Women’s Affairs Department Hall.

The formation of the committee is based on directives from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers / Iraqi National Women’s Department to establish a committee to support women politically, in line with the Iraqi National Strategy for Women 2023–2030 under the pillar of participation and political empowerment. The committee is chaired by the Second Deputy Governor of Dhi Qar and includes members from various governmental institutions, independent bodies, and civil society organizations.

During the meeting, participants discussed a number of items on the agenda, most notably a detailed presentation of the guideline prepared and circulated by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers / Iraqi National Women’s Department. The guideline outlines step-by-step instructions for establishing the committee and defining its responsibilities, as part of an integrated program aimed at enhancing women’s political participation—whether by supporting female candidates in upcoming elections or empowering female voters.

The meeting also addressed the data collection form related to political parties and entities, with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of the level of women’s representation and effectiveness within party structures, as well as assessing the extent of programs directed toward women and their representation in women’s bureaus and committees within the parties.
