Tammuz Holds Dialogue Session on Legal Protection for Female Candidates in Najaf

As part of the “Women for Democracy” project implemented by the Tammuz Organization for Social Development, a dialogue session titled “Legal Protection for Female Candidates” was held in cooperation with the Oma Organization on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Najaf. The event was attended by a group of female candidates, activists, and women interested in political affairs.
The session aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the legal and political challenges faced by female candidates, while also creating space to exchange experiences and insights in order to support their effective participation in public and political life—especially during the upcoming electoral phase.
Discussions addressed the main legal and societal barriers women face in the electoral process, with a particular focus on the need to ensure a supportive and safe environment for female candidates. The session also shed light on issues related to women’s underrepresentation and the importance of raising public awareness about the role of women in decision-making positions.
The event saw active engagement from participants, who raised several relevant topics and proposals drawn from their experiences in candidacy and political involvement. Additionally, the discussion explored ways to strengthen community support for female candidates and highlighted the necessity of building coordination networks between them and civil society organizations.
