Tammuz Holds Electoral Awareness Forum for Academics in Erbil

As part of the “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Freedom of the Media” project, funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in collaboration with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) and its project partners—Ein and Shams Networks for Election Monitoring—organized an electoral awareness forum for academics in Erbil Governorate on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, at the Van Royal Hotel.

The forum was attended by a group of academics from various fields interested in electoral matters. The event included an explanation of the legal framework of elections (the Iraqi Council of Representatives Election Law), clarification of the importance of elections and the democratic process, as well as procedures for updating the biometric voter register, ballot papers, and polling centers.

Discussions also addressed the role of academics in the electoral process and ways to encourage voters to participate in the upcoming elections.
