Tammuz Holds Electoral Awareness Forum for Youth and Women in Erbil
As part of the project “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Freedom of the Media”, funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), the Tammuz Organization for Social Development—together with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) and project partners from the Shams and Ein Networks for Election Monitoring—organized an Electoral Awareness Forum for youth and women in Erbil Governorate on Thursday, 15 May 2025.
The forum was attended by directors of youth and sports centers in the governorate, along with young people and women interested in electoral affairs.
The forum covered an explanation of the legal framework for elections (specifically the Iraqi Parliamentary Elections Law), the importance of elections and the democratic process, procedures for updating the voter registry, as well as information about ballots and polling centers.
Discussions also addressed the role of youth and volunteer teams in the electoral process and ways to encourage voter participation in the upcoming elections.
