Tammuz Holds the Electoral Awareness Forum for Academics in Basra
As part of the project “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Freedom of the Media,” funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in cooperation with the Independent High Electoral Commission and its project partners, Shams and Ein Election Monitoring Networks, organized the Electoral Awareness Forum for Academics in Basra Governorate on Saturday, 19 July 2025.
The forum was attended by a group of academics from various fields who are interested in electoral affairs. The forum included an explanation of the legal framework of elections, particularly the Iraqi Council of Representatives Election Law, along with discussions on the importance of elections, the democratic process, procedures for updating the voter registry, ballot papers, and polling centers.
The discussions also highlighted the role of academics in the electoral process and explored ways to encourage voters to participate in the upcoming elections.
