Tammuz Holds the Electoral Awareness Forum for Youth and Women in Basra
As part of the project “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Freedom of the Media,” funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in cooperation with the Independent High Electoral Commission and its project partners, Shams and Ein Election Monitoring Networks, organized the Electoral Awareness Forum for Youth and Women in Basra Governorate on Friday, 18 July 2025.
The forum was attended by a group of youth and women interested in electoral affairs, along with members of civil society organizations and volunteer teams. During the forum, the legal framework for elections—specifically the Iraqi Council of Representatives Election Law—was explained. The discussions also highlighted the importance of elections, the democratic process, procedures for updating the voter register, as well as information on ballot papers and polling centers.
The forum also included dialogue about the role of youth and volunteer groups in the electoral process and how to effectively encourage voter participation in the upcoming elections.
