Tammuz Organizes the Third Workshop on Electoral Violence in Dhi Qar

Within the framework of the Community-Led Solutions to Counter Violent Extremism project, supported by Al-Masalla Organization and funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Tammuz Organization for Social Development held its third workshop on electoral violence on 24 November 2025. The workshop was attended by a number of candidates for the 2025 Iraqi Council of Representatives elections, as well as representatives of electoral campaign teams for political blocs and coalitions, political entity observers, local observers, and media monitors responsible for tracking candidates’ speeches and media campaigns, and monitoring what is published, read, or broadcast during the electoral campaigning period.

The workshop’s topics focused on extremism in general before moving to discuss extremism and electoral violence, and the practices that may accompany the candidates’ introduction period, such as targeting, exclusion, violations of the code of conduct, and hate speech. The workshop emphasized that such behaviors represent direct factors contributing to fueling extremism and threatening civil peace, especially when presented within sectarian, ethnic, or discriminatory discourse.

The workshop also stressed the importance of adhering to the electoral codes of conduct that have been signed or obligating candidates to effectively apply their provisions during the electoral campaigns. During the discussion, the community, executive, and legislative roles in reducing manifestations of electoral violence and promoting a safe and extremism-free electoral environment were clarified.
