Training of Subcommittee Members of Women’s Empowerment Units in Babylon Governorate

As part of the project “Democracy and Transparency: Promoting Civic Engagement and Freedom of the Media”, funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in cooperation with the Independent High Electoral Commission and the Women’s Empowerment Department, conducted a training for the subcommittee members of the Women’s Empowerment Units on electoral violence against women, in Babylon Governorate, during the period of 29–30 September 2025.

The training aimed to build the capacities of the participants in confronting electoral violence and promoting safe and effective participation of women in the electoral process. The training included introductory sessions on the legal framework and the Iraqi electoral system, as well as discussions on the challenges faced by female candidates, hate speech on social media, legal and digital protection mechanisms, in addition to practical training sessions on designing electoral messages and community support for female candidates.

The training witnessed the presence and interaction of representatives from governmental and academic institutions and contributed to enhancing coordination among partner entities in a way that supports the political empowerment of women and ensures a safe and inclusive electoral environment.
