Workshop to Develop the National Electoral Awareness Plan

Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in collaboration with Shams and Ein Networks for Election Monitoring, conducted a workshop to develop the National Electoral Awareness Plan as part of the project *”Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Participation and Media Freedom”*, in partnership with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) and funded by the European Union. The workshop took place on February 24–25, 2025, in Baghdad.

Attendees included representatives from the Presidency of the Republic, the Council of Representatives, the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), the Ministry of Youth, and the Electoral Assistance Office of the United Nations Mission, as well as representatives from civil society organizations and trade unions.

The workshop aimed to introduce the *”Democracy and Transparency”* project and discuss the National Electoral Awareness Plan, which seeks to enhance public understanding of the electoral process, encourage voters to update their electoral cards, promote electoral participation, and address all aspects of electoral operations through coordination and collaboration between the IHEC, civil society organizations, and trade unions.

On the first day, the workshop focused on clarifying the roles of partners in electoral awareness efforts, explaining the functions of electoral institutions and the legal framework for elections, and facilitating discussions with participants.

The second day involved a detailed discussion of the electoral awareness campaign project, covering its “methods, tactics, tools, challenges, and opportunities.” Following deliberations and suggestions from participants, a future action plan was formulated. All attendees affirmed their full readiness to participate, contribute, and collaborate to ensure the plan’s success, achieve its objectives, and overcome potential challenges.
