Tammuz Holds the Second Workshop of the Sixth Generation of Young Leaders Program in Najaf

Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, implemented the second training workshop of the Young Leaders Program – Sixth Generation under the theme: “Democracy, Women’s Rights, and Youth Political Participation”, held from 17 to 19 July 2025 in Najaf Governorate at the Al-Khurnaq Palace Hotel.
The three-day workshop brought together 23 participants from various Iraqi provinces and was led by trainer Yass Khudair, who focused on democracy and its relation to societal value systems on the first day. He also explained the concept of political participation, examined the current state of youth engagement in Iraq, and discussed challenges and barriers that hinder youth involvement in political life.
On the second day, the trainer and participants explored the relationship between youth, civil society, and political participation, including alternative forms of engagement. Later that day, Mr. Murtadha Abu Al-Maali, a media specialist, was hosted to speak about the impact of both traditional and digital media on enabling or restricting political participation.
The third day focused on women’s involvement in public affairs in Iraq. Discussions addressed the quota system and the debate between symbolic versus genuine representation. The trainer then introduced the concepts of social accountability and civic oversight, outlining available tools and emphasizing the roles of youth and women in responsible community monitoring.
Throughout the three days, participants engaged in interactive and practical exercises to enhance their understanding of the training content.
The workshop concluded with Hussein Mahmoud, the program coordinator, extending his gratitude and appreciation to the trainer and participants for their commitment and active engagement throughout the sessions.
