Tammuz Holds a Dialogue Session on Legal and Digital Protection Mechanisms for Female Candidates in Dhi Qar

As part of the “Women for Democracy” project implemented by the Tammuz Organization for Social Development, a broad dialogue session was organized in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Department of Dhi Qar Governorate and the local office of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC). The event was held on August 26, 2025, at the Sumerian Hotel Hall in Nasiriyah.

The session was conducted as part of the Political Empowerment Committee’s work plan and aimed to raise awareness among female candidates regarding legal protection mechanisms during electoral campaigns. Participants included candidates from various political affiliations, alongside representatives of governmental institutions and civil society organizations.

Facilitated by Mr. Mohammed Thamer, the session featured contributions from legal expert Mr. Razzaq Mahdi Al-Ali, an IHEC representative Mr. Raed, and digital security specialist Eng. Sadiq Al-Sahl. The discussion addressed several key themes, including the political empowerment of women as outlined in the National Strategy 2023–2030, the importance of fostering a safe electoral environment, and international frameworks aimed at combating digital violence.

The session also highlighted common forms of online threats that candidates may face, such as cyberbullying, blackmail, and account hacking. Preventive measures, along with available legal and digital protection mechanisms for filing complaints through IHEC or relevant authorities, were explained in detail.

Additionally, participants discussed safe interaction practices on social media, methods to counter smear campaigns, and the importance of securing campaign accounts separately from personal ones to ensure privacy and safety.
