A Discussion Session on the Proposal to Amend Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959

Women for Democracy project team, cooperation with the Civilized Dialogue Organization, held a discussion session on the proposal to amend Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959 on Saturday, July 3, 2024, in Dhi Qar Governorate.

The session was attended by legal specialists, activists, and academics, with the aim of discussing and comparing the proposed amendment to the Personal Status Law with the current law. Several issues were raised during the session for discussion, including: a comparison between the current text and the proposed amendment, the social and political dimensions that led to the proposed amendment, in addition to the extent to which the proposed amendment aligns with international conventions.
