The Independent High Electoral Commission visits the operations headquarters of the monitoring networks
A delegation from the Independent High Electoral Commission, represented by Mr. Omar Ahmed, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, and a group member of the Board of Commissioners, visited the operations room of the Alliance of National Networks and Organizations to monitor the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections at the Classy Hotel in Erbil, during the monitoring of the special vote on October 18th, 2024.
The Commission delegation was briefed on the monitoring process carried out by the monitoring networks and listened to the comments on the progress of the electoral process. Mr. Omar Ahmed, on his side, spoke about the importance of the partnership between the Commission and civil society in improving the work of the Commission and ensuring the integrity of the elections, and he emphasized the continuation of cooperation for the best.
It is worth noting that the Tammuz Social Development Organization’s observers’ network monitor the special voting process with more than 200 observers, and the alliance monitors with more than 600 observers distributed by the polling stations. The monitoring is carried out within the framework of the alliance of national networks and organizations to monitor the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections, which consists of the Shams, Ain, Tammuz, Jaf, Minority Alliance, and Kurdish Election Institute networks, and within the Democracy and Transparency Project “Enabling Civic Participation and Media Freedom” in partnership with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) and with the support of the European Union. It is worth noting that the monitoring is carried out on a long-term basis, starting from the stage of approving the election law and continuing until the general vote on October 20th ,2024, monitoring the counting, sorting, auditing, and reaching the final announcement of the election results.
