Tammuz Holds an Electoral Awareness Forum for Academics in Najaf

As part of the project “Democracy and Transparency: Empowering Civic Engagement and Freedom of Media”, funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), Tammuz Organization for Social Development, in cooperation with the Middle Euphrates University, the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), and its project partners from the Ein and Shams networks for election monitoring, organized an electoral awareness forum for academics in Najaf Governorate on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
The forum was attended by a group of academics from various disciplines who are interested in electoral affairs. The session included a detailed explanation of the legal framework governing the elections (the Iraqi Parliamentary Elections Law), the significance of elections and the democratic process, and the procedures for updating the voter registry. It also covered essential information about ballot papers and polling centers.
Furthermore, the discussion addressed the vital role academics can play in the electoral process and how they can contribute to encouraging voters to participate in the upcoming elections.
