Initiative to Strengthen Youth Role in Monitoring Environmental Violations

Graduates of the Youth Leaders Program, Mohammed Zaman and Najwan Shakir, implemented a training initiative titled “Strengthening the Role of Youth in Monitoring Environmental Violations” with the support of Tammuz Organization for Social Development on Friday, 13 February 2026, at the hall of Al-Ghad Ajmal Organization in Baghdad.

The initiative was conducted in cooperation with Al-Ghad Ajmal Organization and brought together a group of young men and women interested in climate change and environmental protection issues.

The training aimed to build youth capacities in environmental monitoring and enhance their role in documenting environmental violations while contributing to the protection of environmental rights. It covered several key topics, including:

  • The difference between observation and environmental monitoring
  • The concept and definition of environmental monitoring
  • Types and mechanisms of environmental monitoring
  • A practical exercise on monitoring and documentation methods
  • Ethics of environmental monitoring

This initiative is part of a series of community initiatives implemented by program graduates after completing their training, reflecting their social responsibility toward their communities and their commitment to serving society and raising awareness on various social and humanitarian issues.

It is worth noting that the Youth Leaders Program aims to develop community leaders and is implemented annually by Tammuz Organization for Social Development in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Foundation. To date, six generations have graduated from the program, totaling more than 160 young men and women from different Iraqi governorates, religions, sects, and ethnic backgrounds.
